Local Spotlight of the Month 🔦: City Farm Markets in East Perth

Intro

Welcome back to our "Local Spotlight of the Month" series, where we highlight businesses and markets that align with Ayurveda and gut health. This series is all about supporting local gems in Western Australia that promote organic, sustainable, and wholesome food options.

This month, we turn our attention to the Perth City Farm Markets, a thriving hub of fresh, organic produce right in the heart of Perth.

As someone deeply passionate about fresh, organic produce, I personally get the majority of my fresh ingredients from this very market every Saturday - and occasionally some puppy therapy 🐶!

There's something incredibly fulfilling about knowing that my money goes directly to the farmers rather than through a supermarket chain, ensuring that they are fairly supported for their dedication to sustainable farming.

The more Saturday mornings I spend here, the more I’ve gotten to know the farmers. I feel so wholesome having a personal connection with the beautiful people who cultivate the land and grow the food that goes on my plate, it makes every meal so much more meaningful ♥️.

City Farm Markets – A Haven for Organic Produce 🥬

Every Saturday morning, City Farm in East Perth transforms into a bustling farmer’s market, showcasing local organic farmers who are passionate about our land, soil, and sustainability. Many of these farmers use organic and biodynamic farming techniques, they’re dedicated to growing nutrient-dense produce without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, making their offerings perfect for those following Ayurvedic principles and seeking gut-friendly foods!

Ayurveda places great importance on eating fresh, local, and seasonal produce as a way to balance the body's natural rhythms with the changing environment. Foods that are grown in tune with nature provide the most prana, or life force, which supports digestion, immunity, and overall well-being.

Seasonal produce naturally aligns with our body's needs—for example, cooling fruits and leafy greens in summer help pacify excess heat ☀️, while grounding root vegetables in winter ⛄ provide warmth and stability. By choosing organic and biodynamic produce from local farmers, you are not only nourishing your gut but also aligning with Ayurvedic wisdom that promotes harmony between food, body, and the environment.

Another major benefit? The food miles on this produce are kept to an absolute minimum. The fruits and vegetables I buy here are grown right here in Western Australia 📌, meaning they haven’t spent weeks in cold storage or travelled thousands of kilometres before reaching my plate. This makes a noticeable difference in both freshness and nutrient content.

Here are some standout local farmers and producers at the market:

  • TBO Toutikan Biodynamic Organics – A small-scale, family-run farm dedicated to biodynamic organic farming principles (NASAA Certified). Toutikan produce vibrant, chemical-free vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Their produce is grown with rich composts and natural soil enhancers to maximise nutrients, making it ideal for an Ayurvedic diet focused on digestion and vitality.

A Personal Connection – Cinnamon’s Story

One of the most heart-warming connections I have to this market is through our very own, in-house and much beloved Paw-sitive Therapy Specialist, Cinnamon.

She found her way into my heart from a kind and caring Border Collie breeder at these very markets!

Every time I visit, I’m reminded of how this place brings people (and pets!) together in the most unexpected and beautiful ways.
